Rare and unreleased Adelaide 1967 - 69
To the listener
My friend Graham Milne presented me with this collection as a gift, having mastered it to cd from some dusty old tapes he had hidden away somewhere. Hearing these songs again after so many years, I thought there may be others who would like to share the experience. These were recorded on a two or four track machine at various sessions between 1967 and 1969 at Gamba Studios North Adelaide by Graham, Stan Lewandowski, Jim Stewart and Kevin Roper, who also played drums. We usually recorded in the wee small hours and sometimes after a few wee small drinks. Drifting in and out of the control room, like shadows on the wall, were friends including Irene Petrie, Denis Whitburn, Kevin Johnson and Lee Conway.
Some tracks feature the fine musicianship and arrangements of Phil Cunneen and the talents of other great South Australian players. Much is just me and my old Maton 12-string. All those mentioned above were part of the embryonic days of Sweet Peach Records. The Day They Freed The Noise and I've Come To Save Your World was the first Sweet Peach release. This single is here in its unabridged warts and all glory. There are songs by writers I've admired such as Jim Webb and Leonard Cohen. The whole thing is pretty much as naked as it was originally recorded, including tape hiss etc. I can't help feeling that to muck around with this stuff would somehow spoil the memories.
