What is the concept of the presentation of CDs on this site?

Folk Trax started its life as a CD shop at the Victor Harbor (South Australia) Folk Festival. When the time came to put the shop on line, the concept was to make the online shop emulate the physical shop as close as possible.
    • The various catalogues we offer represent the 'bins' the CDs would be in at a physical shop. You flip through, or search the bins to find a CD that might interest you, and then
    • you pull the CD out of the 'bin' (click on its link) to inspect the CD and its liner notes more closely.
    • If you think the CD might interest you, you take the time to listen some of the sound clips, which in most cases have been selected for you by the artists themselves as best representing the music on the CD. (Note: we do not offer sound clips from compilation CDs by 'Various Artists' as it is not really possible to select representative samples with only a few clips.)
The information presented on the individual pages of the CDs on consignment to us by independant artists is all the relevant information accompanying the CD in the liner notes, etc. If information coming with the CD is sparse we may augment it with extracts taken from the artist's website. We do not presume to judge the CDs by offering any personal comment or review. (We do not include lyrics even if they on the liner notes.)

In the case of CDs available through Folk Trax from Planet Distribution the information on the individual CD pages is that available from the web-sites of the relevant recording labels or supplied to us by Planet Distribution.

When is the shop physically open?
The Folk Trax shop is now physically located as part of the Radio Station EBI shop, 10 Byron Place, Adelaide. The shop is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Unfortunately because of administrative difficulties, the 10% discount offered to members of the Folk Federations, etc, is now only available on orders placed on-line.

How do I order CDs?
  • To make purchases on-line from Folk Trax you need to have a Visa Card and MasterCard and orders must be for at least $A15.00.
  • On the page containing the details of the CD you wish to purchase, click the Add to Basket which will add the CD to your 'shopping basket'. If you want more than one of any CD adjust the quantity to the required number before clicking Add to Basket. You can view what you have in your shopping basket at any time by clicking on the View Basket button. You can adjust your order further at any time while viewing your shopping basket.
  • Continue adding to the basket until you have all the CDs you require in your basket. Then click on View Basket. If you are quite happy with the items you have chosen click on the Check Out button which will take you to a screen where you will actually place the order.
  • Placing an order takes place in two phases:
    1. The first form will just ask for your name and email address and send this to us together with details of the purchases you require, and a time stamp.
    2. After you send this information you will be taken to a second form where your purchases have been reduced to the time stamp (to link the two parts of the order together). This second form will take details of your shipping requirements and credit card details securely.

Why isn't the shopping cart showing the CDs I am trying to order?
You must have 'cookies' enabled in your browser to use the shopping cart. Details of your order are stored temporarily in a cookie until your order is submitted, canceled or the session with your browser is terminated, whichever is the earlier. The cookie containing details of your order is not written to your hard disk but remains in your computer memory as part of your browser program. It most certainly will not exist after your browser is closed down. If you wish to order on-line you must enable cookies at least temporarily while you organize your purchases.

What credit cards can be used?
Folk Trax can accept Visa or MasterCard.

Why don't you accept American Express and other cards that are not issued by banks?
To be able to accept credit cards that are not part of the banking system that operates worldwide, we would have to pay substantial membership fees to each of the individual organizations issuing the cards. As we do little more than break even with Folk Trax project, we simply cannot afford to cater for all the credit cards that are available. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Why don't you accept debit cards?
Acceptance of debit cards is reliant on having a fullblown EFTPOS system, but we must make do with a manual system which doesn't permit us to accept debit cards. Sorry!

How do I get the Australian dollars with my currency?
This is no problem using your credit card. The banking system will credit our account with the cost of the purchase in Australian dollars, and charge your account with the equivalent in your currency, no doubt making a handsome profit along the way.

What is Folk Trax's sales conditions / returns policy?
Folk Trax respects the customer's rights and will accept any returns of merchandise that is genuinely faulty. We will replace a faulty item or if no longer available refund the amount the customer paid including all postage charges.
    Please note:
There is an emerging trend of CDs being offered for consignment that are produced in home studios using home computers and/or are being burnt with home paper labels. Some commercially replicated CDs are now being burnt where low numbers are involved. All CDs offered for sale by Folk Trax are legal copies as supplied by the artists or distributor.
